After 12 years working with brides at Bridal Studio, Alena set out on her own to create the bespoke design studio she’s always envisioned. A studio where we uphold the highest standards of craft and sustainability and ensure every part of your gown is created to perfection.
Alena learnt to sew from her mother when she was young, though like many people was only a hobby seamstress for many years. After returning to Palmerston North in 2010, she applied for a part-time seamstress position and fell into the world of bridal. Less than a year later, Alena was running the alterations department where she was learning everything there is to know about bridal gowns, fitting clients and making dreams come true. Over the years she has seen and done it all from completely recreating bodices, working with heirloom gowns or even adding led lights to a gown.
Alena Hume brings together a team of highly skilled craftsmen dedicated to looking after your gown. Hailing from a range of backgrounds, each seamstresses skills are utilised across the wide range of techniques required in bridal. These days, Alena is focused on supporting a sustainable bridal industry, training and providing an excellent client experience. The bridal world is quickly becoming more wasteful than ever with fast fashion entering the industry and Alena Hume has been established to drive the shift towards sustainability in New Zealand.
